It’s NaNoWriMo Time!

Yes, I announce this every year, and no, I have never written a 50 000 word novel (at least not for NaNoWriMo) but I can’t help spreading the excitement of possibility that comes with National Novel Writing Month. I have a few more friends joining me this year so I am looking forward to seeing how it goes for them (I’ve gotten to read some samples and I’m quite impressed).

I have the added challenge this year of writing while we have visitors. Because of that, I’m not sure if I’ll finish this year but I am going to give it my all. I’ve already changed my storyline (completely changed) three times but I’m nearing 6000 words and am thinking that my newest idea is the one that will stick. It doesn’t need a lot of research (it’s about a lady dealing with emotions surrounding her pregnancy and how an old lady she cares for helps her find her stregth within) and I’m setting it pretty close to home so I just need to look out my window for ideas. Next year, though, I think I’ll go for something completely different and write a fantasy or something of the such…ha, ha, ha….let me get through this year, I suppose!

With that, I’m off to do my writing for the day. Have a great day, my fellow writers!

First Post Ever Link Up

It’s always interesting to learn why other’s started to blog. It’s also important from time to time to go back on one’s own blog to see what direction you started with and if you’ve stayed true to the purpose of your blog, and if not, are you happy with the direction that your blog took instead. For these reasons, I’m thrilled to tell you about the First Post Ever at Training Children up for Christ.

My first post was called Once Upon a Time and it perfectly summed up why I started writing this blog in the first place. I would love to get back to creative writing…..actually, I’d love to start writing anything that isn’t reviews and memes on this blog. I think I need to keep in mind the purpose of this blog was and just start writing again. If you are feeling inspired to share your first post be sure to link up at Training Children up for Christ and join the fun.

Blueberries Memories

I’ve been moaning and groaning about not having any inspiration to write. Nothing worth mentioning happens. Everything has been written before. You know? What’s the point? Well, way back eons ago I starting this blog so I could write so taking the bull by the horns again, I’m just jumping in. Looking for inspiration I found Creative Writing Prompts for Writers (a little bit of a redundant title, no?) and have decided to give it a go as the questions on Plinky are not terribly inspiring in my honest opinion.

Do an acrostic poem with the word BLUEBERRIES written down the side of your paper. Make a reference to something that is shade of blue in four of the lines.

Now, I let it be known that I DO NOT write poetry but thought that today’s blueberry poetry prompt would be more challenging than just writing a memory of blueberries. When I think of blueberry picking with my Mum who passed away when I was 12 years old and how we’d sit at the table in comfortable silence cleaning the berries after we’d get home……

Blueberry picking. Memories found.
Light from the clear sky above,
Undoing the package held tight in my mind.
Every moment is precious indeed,
Because this won’t always be.
Everything changes.
Roads diverge, people pass on.
Rivers of memories of days long ago.
Instances of joy, the wind in the trees,
Ever remind me of you.
Stains of blue on my hands as they were at the table with you.

One of my first times blueberry picking, of many, I’m sure.

…or Rather I Almost Moved

or maybe I’ve halfway moved. I’ve tried, I’ve really, REALLY tried to fall in love with blogger. I’ve fooled around with the appearance of my blog over there for HOURS each evening but when I started dreaming about my blog and then loosing sleep over it, I decided that something had to give. I hopped back over here last night just to reminise about the past and noticed this gorgeous theme that screams KATRINA to me. Not knowing what to do, I went to bed. The hours I’d put into the blogger blog to end up with a finished product that I wasn’t happy with bothered me but at the same time there were some features that I appreciated that do not function over here (it’s so much easier to follow blogs for example and there’s a HUGE number of widgets to choose from). Then it came to me, the WORDPRESS blog (this one) is screaming Katrina, why don’t I use it for MYSELF? I love homeschooling, reviewing, and updating friends and family about the kids but really, that stuff has never really, REALLY been posted for ME. I didn’t go off on tangents (too much).

So from here on out, my plan is to use this blog for myself. To explore my views. To write about my passions and very likely sometimes to just write (as that was truly the original plan behind Mama Manuscripts…but it morph into a “day in the life of” blog rather quickly)

My reviews and family updates willl be on my Blogger blog. http://mamamanuscriptsplace.blogspot.com My weekly crafting Meme will be there as well (as my main reason for moving was to have a pretty Mr. Linky).

There will likely be just words on this blog from now on. I will, at least for the first while, post an informational post once a week with links to everything I post on my blogger site (as that page is not showing on search engines because THIS one is instead and I want as many people as possibly to see my reviews for the TOS Homeschool Crew. I’m anticipating that MOST of my readers will find themselves more at home over at Blogger so I encourage you to follow me there first and formost.

Thank you all for giving me several great years on WordPress and I look forward to sharing more on Blogger (and here for those that are interested in my ramblings…though I have no idea where they will lead *lol*)

National Blog Posting Month

Well, I tried National Novel Writing Month back in November and didn’t make it so far. I started late and got 10 000 words into my novel and then decided it was WAY too intellectual so I scraped it and made it another 10 000 words into a second, much more fun, idea. Close to 20 000 words…not bad but a long way from that 50 000 word goal! So, I’m giving it another go but instead the goal is to publish a blog post every day for a month (any month). It should be manageable considering I used to, once upon a time, post quite regularly.

I moaned and complained about this blog not being what I anticipated anymore so now I’m going to do something to change that! (Thanks Tim from TOS…visit his blog here!)

I think I might be NUTS!

Picture 9

Well, through my circle of homeschooling friends I’ve finally heard of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). As an aspiring writer, one might have thought I’d have heard of this sooner. No, not I. I’ve been blissfully unaware of anything that could actually challenge me to get out there and write. However, once I did find about about this annual challenge to write a 50 000 word novel in one month, I couldn’t get it out of my head (I almost wrote bed, and no, I couldn’t get it out of my bed either). I crawled under the covers on Wednesday night expecting to fall into a deep sleep (it has been a long couple days with a sickie daughter) but instead I started writing a novel and finally at 4:30, I got up and made my way to the computer to sign up for the challenge. I do think that I have completely lost it. How is a homeschooling Mom of two (who barely has time to keep up with her blog) ever going to find the time to write a book? My only answer, I have NO IDEA!!

The book was forming in my head so easily as I lay there in bed on Wednesday, but in typical Katrina style as soon, as soon as I sat at the computer the words just flew out of my head and out the door, instead of onto the screen. I need to write 2000 words a day to reach my goal and when I look at it that way it seems totally possible, however, when I think about the whole project I have no idea how it will ever get done. Maybe I have a good idea for a short story, maybe even a tad longer, but 50 000 words. I’m such a perfectionist that I’ll write a sentence 5 different ways before I choose the one I like. The goal of NaNoWriMo though is to write, not to write perfectly; to get the ideas out there and let the story form (LEAVE EDITING TIL DECEMBER!!!). I’m up for the challenge!!! I’ve written novellas (yes, we shall call this a novella) before so really, it is possible.

I’ve written 1273 words so far. Only 48727 left to go!!!

(BTW, this blog post is 383 words *lol*)
