Product: Vol 1: The Profits
Company: The World’s Greatest Stories
Price: 9.75$US

As a family, we’ve only just discovered the joy of audio books. They’ve never been something that we’ve used in our homeschool but I’ll admit that I like them and I’ve found some really wonderful vocal artists (can you call them that?). George W. Sarris of The World’s Greatest Stories is not exception! As a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew we were given a copy of his The World’s Greatest Stories Vol 1: The Prophets to review.

Taken word for word from either the King James or New International Version Bible (your choice), George W. Sarris, dramatically narrates some of the most memorable stories from the Bible. The stories included in Vol 1 include:

  • The Blazing Furnace
  • The Handwriting on the Wall
  • Daniel in the Lion’s Den
  • Elijah & the Prophets of Baal
  • The Prophecy of Jonah

While my son, 8, quite enjoyed these stories because he could follow along in his Bible he younger sister, 6, found the narration to be too dramatic and spent most of the time cowering in her chair as we were listening. I think these CDs were very well done but I’ll admit that I had a bit of a hard time not going into a trace listening to them. I’m a little bit strange in that whenever my husband puts on a very dramatic movie (think war movies or those historic warrior one’s) no matter how interested I am in the movie I start falling asleep. I don’t know if it’s a defense mechanism or what so yeah, that was happening as I was listening to these stories so I have to tell myself to stay awake while listening so that I could give an honest review. Since the first time, I’ve only listened once more to share with my husband but my son has put the CD on a couple times. For 7.95$US I’m happy with the quality of this CD and the experience that we’ve had with it. I’m not certain that I would purchase another but there are several more to chose from for those that are interested – The Life of Christ, Beginnings, Joshua and Ester, Joseph and his Brothers,  and Defeating Giants. You can hear audio clips from each volume here. If you have children that are a little more sensitive then these particular narrations may be a little intense for them so I encourage you to listen and see for yourself before sharing.
