Back in February 2010 we were given the opportunity to review Math Mammoth and Liam fell in love with the program. Since then he has complete 5 grade levels and has come to the end of the the Light Blue Series that is designed as a complete curriculum. When he started, he told me he had to be homeschooled until he could finish all the Math Mammoth books. He came to me late last week and showed me the very last review question in his grade 6 book and said that he just didn’t want to write down the last number. Reading the problem and seeing what he had written down, it was clear that the problem was something that he was able to solve. Then it dawned on me, he really just didn’t want to write down that last number. I put my arm around him and said, “Is it because you don’t want to be done Math Mammoth?”
He nodded and there may have been a few tears. He was really, really sad to come to the end of this wonderful program that has been a huge part of his life for the last 3 1/2 years. He was okay after we told him that he could write up his own blog post about Math Mammoth and what we have planned next. Here’s what we he had to say and a week into Kahn Academy, he is quite happy. I am sure that I will continue to hear about Math Mammoth frequently and I’m enjoying doing it all over again with Morgaine.
